The Spring 2008 issue of Flavor & the Menu Magazine has 3 very informative articles related to spirits & cocktails, all of which can be found and downloaded free of charge in pdf format here:

The first one to catch my attention, called 'A Dozen Ways to Cook Up Cocktails', breaks down some of the methodology behind the current movement in mixology, in which cocktails are being propelled to creative new heights through culinary inspiration. There are a lot of great and inspiring ideas in this article.
The next is called 'Bridging the Drink Divide'. It takes a very enlightening look at gender differences as they relate to drinking habits, choices & preferences along with a look at the role culture plays in molding those elements.
The last, entitled 'Sweet Sips', sheds valuable light on the philosophy behind the 'Drinkable Desserts', along with some implementation strategies and some delicious-sounding recipes.
